Mt. Joy x Dinner Service: Hope We Have Fun

There’s something honest about titling a record Hope We Have Fun. The words matter. It’s not “we will” or “we did.” When hope is the focus, it feels more human. It acknowledges that doubt, fear, and hardship are part of the journey and chooses joy anyway.

When we began working with Mt. Joy on a collection centered around their newest album, that phrase stayed with us.

Over the last ten years as a band, they’ve played everywhere from London to Chicago. From dive bars to Madison Square Garden. Roots planted in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, with constant travel in between. The sweeping vistas and beating sun of the desert became a quiet throughline. Gas stations. Auto shops. Roadside attractions. A life shaped by motion, by people and places met along the way. A life of subtle tension. Love and exhaustion. Ambition and anxiety. The weight of the road and the thrill of it all happening at once. That balance. That juxtaposition. It felt familiar.

At Dinner Service, we think about our craft the same way. We want our garments to hold up, even though nothing is permanent. To match the wearer’s life and feel better with time. Worn in. Familiar. Built for the miles. It takes work. It takes effort in a world chasing ease.

What we made together reflects that shared perspective. The jacket reinterprets a classic mechanic’s silhouette. Boxy and waist-cut in heavyweight cotton canvas, enzyme-washed for a softer, lived-in feel. Fully embroidered artwork stretches across the back, pulling from the iconography of the new record and the energy of the desert sun. "Hope We Have Fun" sewn directly into the garment.

The tee sits in the same world. Heavyweight peached cotton with a soft, broken-in hand. An oversized Hope We Have Fun screen print across the back. A custom Mt. Joy x Dinner Service jock tag sewn in at the front. Produced seed-to-sew with oversight at every stage. Built simply. Built honestly.

Truth is, we didn’t want to overcomplicate this collaboration. On the surface, it’s a jacket and a tee. But the approach runs deeper. A shared belief that joy isn’t naïve. It’s deliberate. A choice. Fear will always be there, but it doesn’t have to drive.
