Skip Bennett, founder of Island Creek, grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in the neighborhood where his family has lived since the 1600s. After years of harvesting mussels, razor clams, and steamers, Skip ventured into shellfish farming in the early 1990s, experimenting with quahogs before turning his attention to oysters.
But Island Creek is about more than just oysters. It’s about intentionality and community. Their sustainable,“use it or lose it” approach minimizes waste and ensures environmentally-safe processes. Oysters themselves are natural water filters, improving the health of the bay by reducing algal blooms and excess nitrogen. The ripple effects of their work are undeniable: an entire local economy has formed around oyster farming, from the 25 farms on the bay to the bustling patios, restaurants, shops, and even oyster-themed merchandise dotting the area.
With that spirit in mind, we’re thrilled to announce our contribution to their story in the form of the Island Creek Henley Sweater.
The Island Creek sweater is made from sustainable alternatives to polyester and other synthetic fabrics. Our production is also free of the toxic chemicals that come along with polyester production. Here at Dinner Service it is our mission to raise awareness around the consumption of plastic based fabrics.
